All Classes are held at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center.


Water Fitness Class

Water fitness class is only held if weather permits. Three participants must be present to hold a class. This hour long class is geared towards adults.

Red Cross Lifeguard Class

This class is for ages 15 and older. This class provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until Emergency Medical Service personnel take over. This course is conducted following the guidelines from the American Red Cross. To participate in the class the student must pass a prerequisite swim test. To successfully complete the course and receive certification the student must attend all class sessions, complete all assigned homework, show competency in all skills, activities, and pass the written and final skills assessments.  There must be five participants to hold a class.  
Total course fee: $275.00

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course

The Water Safety Instructor Course is a three day course that trains instructor candidates to teach all of the courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety program to all age groups. Participants must be 16 years of age or older and pass stroke evaluation at the start of the class.  There must be four participants to hold a class.

Certified Pool Operator Course

This course is offered under the guidance of the "Pool and Hot Tub Alliance" (formerly known as the "National Swimming Pool Foundation") and is required for all pool operators in the state of Florida who apply chemicals and/or are responsible for the operation of pool filter systems.  Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the PHTA Certified Pool Operator ("CPO") certification, which is valid for a 5 year time period.  
All students must be pre-registered and tuition paid before attending class. No walk-ins are allowed.
By paying tuition for the training, textbook and exam are included. Please have your own paper and pen, calculator and highlighter.
Dr. J.B. Smith will be your instructor.  Dr. Smith has been a CPO Instructor for more than 25 years and is passionate about aquatic safety and pool operations.  The course topics include: 
Regulations and guidelines, swimming pool calculations, filtration and circulation, pool water contamination,
disinfection, chemical feed and control, pool water testing, spas and warm water pools, pool management,
pool and spa maintenance, pool operations problems, renovation and modernization.
