Engineers Week
February 21-27, 2021
“Imagining Tomorrow”


WHEREAS, engineers focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and to the public health, high quality of life and well-being of the people of the City of St. Cloud; and,

WHEREAS, National Engineers Week is always the week in February which encompasses George Washington's actual birthday, February 22.  The celebration of National Engineers Week was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers in conjunction with President George Washington's birthday.  President Washington is considered as the nation's first engineer, notably for his survey work; and,

WHEREAS, National Engineers Week is to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make. It is also a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills; and,

WHEREAS, February 25, 2021 is Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) helps focus a growing movement to inspire girls’ futures so they learn they have a place in engineering a better world,

Now, therefore, I, Mayor Nathan Blackwell, do hereby designate the week February 21-27, 2021 as Engineers Week; I urge all citizens to join with representatives of the National Society of Professional Engineers and government agencies in activities, events and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to engineers and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to reimaging and protecting our national infrastructure, health, safety, and quality of life.
